Orvil Cantrell, born August 16, 1950, in Beaverton, Alabama, lived a full and vibrant life marked by curiosity, humor, and a deep love for family and the outdoors. As a child, he traveled between Alabama and Florida with his family before eventually settling permanently in Florida, where he built the life he cherished.
Orvil was a man who truly enjoyed staying busy. Whether he was out fishing, tending to his yard, or growing his beloved summer tomatoes, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Known for his knack for fixing just about anything, he proudly referred to himself as a “shade tree mechanic,” always tinkering and working with his hands.
He had a playful spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. Orvil was always teasing, laughing, and “cutting up,” bringing smiles to those around him. A familiar sight to many, he could often be found in his signature gray pocket T-shirt, a simple uniform that became part of his charm.
Though he might not have admitted it, Orvil had a soft spot for the neighborhood’s feral cats. He cared for them in his own unique way, even entertaining himself and others by playfully “cat fishing” with his fishing pole.
Above all, Orvil was a people person who never met a stranger. He loved connecting with others and made everyone feel welcome. His greatest joy, however, was his family. He loved his wife and his children endlessly. He held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all his nieces and nephews, cherishing every moment spent with them.
Orvil’s life was one of warmth, laughter, and quiet acts of kindness. He will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his humor, and the love he shared so freely with those around him.
Orvil was proceeded in death by his father, Clemon Cantrell, his mother Marie Cantrell, his daughter Leeann Larson, his brother Jack Cantrell, his sisters Rachel Cantrell, Bonnie Forsythe and Francis Phillips.
Orvil is survived by his wife Tammy Cantrell, his children; Sandy Douglas, Haley Williams, Brandy McClendon, Tracy Cantrell, Erika Epps, Orvil Cantrell Jr, William Epps, Jimmy Epps and Adrianna Cantrell, as well as 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and a bunch of nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by all.
