Patrick Lawson Rhodes, age 75,passed away peacefully on June 16, 2021 at his home in Gainesville.
Pat was born in Santa Barbara, CA on St. Patrick's Day, 1946 to George and Edwina Rhodes.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his younger brother, George Michael.
He was reared mostly in North Carolina, where he graduated high school and earned his Ed.D from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Pat spent a great deal of his life teaching and helping others. He was imaginative, witty, loving, and a wonderful big brother to his surviving sisters, Meriwether Rhodes of Athens, GA and Lyssa Dougherty, of Black Mountain, NC.
Pat served in Korea with the Army, and later in life when thanked for his service, would growl "I was drafted". The happiest years of his life began when, in 1994, he met Mary Grace Crawley in Norfolk, Virginia, and moved to Florida where he asserted "god-given right to wear shorts every day". During their marriage, they both participated in their community serving on the neighborhood association board of directors and actively campaigning for several City Commission candidates. He and Mary enjoyed foreign travel, loved the beach, cats, riding bikes together, and being with their many friends. He was widely read and astonished others with his depth of knowledge on many topics.
Arrangements for Patrick have been entrusted to the care of Crevasse's Simple Cremation, Gainesville, Florida. Online condolences as well as fond memories may be left for the Rhodes family by visiting www.Crevassesimplecremation.com
