Patti Jean Blomquist

November 17, 2022

Patti Jean Main Blomquist, "PJ", passed away at 87 years of age on November 17, 2022 in Gainesville, Florida. She was born on June 13, 1935, the fifth of six children of Chester J. Main and Maxine Brown Main of Trumbull, Connecticut. She married Jack Verner Blomquist on May 29, 1954. Together they raised two sons, Scott and Harold, at the home they built in Newtown, Connecticut. She was an active member of the PTA throughout her sons' schooling and an active member of the Newtown Methodist Church. In 1997, Patti Jean and Jack moved from Newtown to Melbourne, Florida, to spend their senior years close to PJ's favorite beaches: Daytona Beach and Cocoa Beach. She enjoyed bowling with her local leagues in both Connecticut and Florida, and she taught daily water aerobics classes at her local community pool in Melbourne until 2019. She loved animals, especially the Siamese cats she had through the years. She was an expert card player and a secret pool shark who relished an end-of-day glass of Southern Comfort. She enjoyed yearly cruises in the Caribbean until old age made travel too difficult. After her husband became disabled in 1971, Patti Jean was his devoted caretaker until his passing in 2019. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, four of her five siblings, and a grandson, Dean. She is survived by a brother, Wesley, of Connecticut; two sons, Scott and Harold, both of Florida; five grandchildren, Erica and Devon, of Vermont, and Kyle, Tegan, and Paul, of Florida; as well as several great-grandchildren in both Vermont and Florida.Memorial contributions in honor of Patti Jean can be made to the Hospice Foundation of America, hospicefoundation.org
