Pauline "Polly" Ruth Battaglia

Pauline Ruth "Polly" Battaglia, 81 years of age, of Belleview, Florida, left this world quietly surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, after a brief illness. 

Pauline was born March 8, 1942, in Mechanicville, New York, to the late William and Mary Kardash. Pauline and her twin sister, Anna, were the first two of four children. Pauline grew up in Alplaus, New York, and graduated from Niskayuna High School in 1959. Pauline married the late Ronald Henry Battaglia in 1961; the union was blessed with five children; the family resided in Rotterdam, New York. As an adult, she embarked on a journey of education to achieve a degree at Maria College in 1981, becoming a Registered Nurse. Later in life, Pauline retired with her husband to Belleview, Florida. 

Pauline cultivated a passion for the art of sewing, becoming an accomplished seamstress and dressmaker; her creations were a testament to her skill and creativity and left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to wear or admire her work. 

Music was another of her great loves as she masterfully played multiple string instruments, with the guitar holding a special place in her heart. Pauline's musical talents extended beyond personal enjoyment as she lent her skills to the family band, creating melodies that brought joy to others; her enthusiasm for music extended to her grandchildren, whom she encouraged and tutored, which reflected her desire to share the magic of music and the importance of passing down traditions. 

Pauline's commitment to faith and community was a guiding force throughout her life, evident in her role as a catechist at the parishes of Saint Madeline Sophie and Saint Gabriel the Archangel in Schenectady, New York. In her later years, her spiritual journey continued at the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Belleview, Florida, where she found solace, community, and continued growth in her faith.

For many years, Pauline was an active member of the Glenridge Grange in Glenville, New York, where she generously shared her time and talents; she devoted time to mentoring youth in the Grange programs, fostering a sense of community and instilling valuable life skills in the younger generation. 

In her professional life as a nurse, Pauline extended her caring nature to patients and later as a volunteer at Monroe Regional Medical Center (currently Advent Health Ocala). Pauline's selflessness and compassion were evident in the tender care provided for both her family and the patients she served. 

Pauline found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Among her favorite pastimes were the games of Bingo or Bridge; her love for games reflected a fondness for strategy and an appreciation for comradery and shared laughter that accompanies friendly competition. 

Amidst all her roles and responsibilities, Pauline's most cherished title was that of a grandmother. Her 15 grandchildren were the source of immense joy, and time spent with them created memories filled with love and warmth; her interactions with them were filled with love, laughter, and a genuine interest in each grandchild's unique qualities; memories created during these moments will be treasured, as a testament to the love and warmth she shared. 

As we bid farewell to Pauline, let us remember the rich tapestry of her life, the love she shared, and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her. May she find eternal peace, and may her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who mourn her passing. 

Pauline was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Battaglia Sr., her parents, William and Mary Kardash of FL, and her brother, William Kardash, Jr. of DE. 

Pauline is survived by her children: Ronald (Mary) Battaglia of Warrenton, Virginia; Mary (Robert) Lulis of Broad Run, Virginia; Nadine Battaglia of Holiday, Florida; Tina (Donald) Bernhoft of Winter Garden, Florida, and William "Bill" Battaglia of Rotterdam, New York, 15 grandchildren: Alexandr, Jonathan, Adam, Natalie, Nichole (Stephen), Anna, Alexa, Michael, Nicholas, Emma, Nathan, Noelle, William, Anthony, and Jack. Pauline is also survived by her sisters, Anna Miles-Reich of Oxford, FL, and Janet Chepulis of Providence, NY, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Al Krietemeyer American Legion Post 284 (Belleview, Florida).
