Philip Kenneth Garza

September 7, 1944 ~ February 10, 2024

Philip Kenneth Garza was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 7, 1944 to Felipe Angel Garza Arizpe (May 1, 1924 - November 16, 1985) of Laredo, Texas and Elodia González Orejel (December 4, 1921 - September 16, 2003) of Michoacán, México. He is survived by his former wife, Myriam Darlow and their children, Sandra (Spencer IV) & Philip III; grandchildren, Alyssa, Spencer V & Lyon; siblings, Yolanda (Steven), Angelina (Kenneth), Elodia & Robert and several nieces & nephews. 

Philip served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1962 until 1968 and was a wartime veteran who received medals for Good Conduct, Vietnam Service and National Defense Service. Philip was an all-around handyman and held many jobs including airline cargo handler, auto-mechanic, upholsterer, and insurance agent.

Philip took his last breath at the age of 79 on Saturday, February 10, 2024 while at the Malcom Randall Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville Florida and will be remembered for his sacrifice & service to our country; as well as for his manners, humor & benevolence.

  1. I knew Phil when he visited his Auntie Hope in Michigan. His Mother Alodia was like an Auntie to me. I visited Phil in Chicago a couple times and then lost touch. He was special to me and I was saddened to learn of his passing.
