Phyllis Manning, 97 of Gainesville, FL passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025. Phyllis was born on June 18, 1928, in Roanoke, VA, daughter of the late Jesse H. and Ada W. Fisher.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Michael Fisher, and two sons, Gary Manning Sr. and Robert (Kirk) Manning.
Phyllis was a talented artist who enjoyed drawing and painting. She enjoyed sharing stories of her childhood growing up in the country, working as an artist creating drawings for advertisements, and a devoted career to child education, teaching up into her 70’s before retiring from Berkshire Elementary in West Palm Beach, FL. She spent most of her life in West Palm Beach, FL, where she has many dear friends and loved ones, until moving to Gainesville to spend more time with her family. She developed even more friendships that she held dearly in the Gainesville area and attended Grace Presbyterian Church.
Phyllis is survived by her grandchildren, Gary Manning, Jr (Teresa) of Eufaula, AL, Edwina Gonzalez (Scott) of Glen St. Mary, FL, Richard Manning (Jessie) of Tallahassee, FL, Jessica Solito (Jerame) of Gainesville, FL, Michael Manning (Caitlin) of Gainesville, FL and Victoria Kirby (Matthew) of Brooker, FL, Sister-in-law Gail Guerrero of Mexico, niece, Rhiannon Guerrero of Petaluma, CA, nephew, Jesse M. Fisher of Sebastopol, CA, cousins Shirley Hale and Roger Hatcher, many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great nieces, extended family members, and dear friends she cherished deeply.
In lieu of a memorial service or flowers, Phyllis’s wishes are that donations her memory go to Grace Presbyterian Church, 3146 NW 13th St., Gainesville, FL 32609, (352) 376-5654.
