Prentiss “Buck” Alford, 92, went home to be with Jesus September 4, 2025, at the E.T. York Care Center. He was born in Houston, Mississippi and was raised on a farm, caring for animals and helping in the garden. No one was ever a stranger to Buck, he treated everyone as a friend.
He served in the Korean War just out of high school and had a lifelong career in construction; working on many government buildings, including the first VA Hospital in Gainesville. His work led him to many different cities across the eastern USA. He always made sure to take his family to historic places in all those cities. He loved his family and always put them first.
Buck loved Country and Western music and attended many of his favorite artists concerts. He also loved gospel music and would sing hymns his Mama taught him.
Buck was predeceased by the love of his life, Marie. He is survived by his 4 children; John (Jeanette) Alford, Jackie (Arty) Hart, Jim (Elizabeth) Alford and Julie Cromer; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; his sister Marcy Gomez; sister-in-law Penny Hoffmeyer; brother-in-law Russ Colegrove; and many nieces and nephews.
Buck was a member of the Vineyard Christian Fellowship and Pastor Arty Hart had the honor of baptizing him many years ago. We will surely miss you!
Crevasse's Simple Cremation is honored to serve the Alford family.
