Rayma Jessie Bitters, age 81, passed through the glory morning gates and walked into paradise in the early morning on Tuesday, March 8th, 2022 at Haven Hospice in Orange Park, Florida. Rayma was born in Lapeer, Michigan on September 14th, 1940. Rayma married William Lorne Bitters in September of 1958 and together they were blessed with five children. She was a retired school bus driver for Lapeer County and resided in Attica, Michigan for 63 years, before relocating to Middleburg, Florida in 2021 to be near her daughter and granddaughter who cared for her over the last year. In her final days, Rayma, was surrounded by loved ones who comforted her with hymns, prayer, laughter and love.
She was a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother, Sister and Loyal friend. She loved her family deeply and those who knew her knew that Lacee was her world. She knew no stranger, she cultivated many genuine long lasting friendships and welcomed all. She loved the Lord and was a member of Attica Baptist Church. Her many hobbies included bingo, camping, canning, gardening, knitting, quilting, and we cannot forget shopping. She would spend the Michigan winter months in the south, initially in Florida until she transitioned to Texas to spend the winters with a group of family and friends. She and her late husband were members of The Good Sam Club, she was a member of the Red Hat Society and a founding sister of the family's Yellow Rose Secret Sisters group.
Those left to cherish her memory include son, William Bitters Jr; daughter, Nancy Bitters; son, John (Roni) Bitters ; daughter, Cynthia Bazzani; sister, Alberta Bricker; sister Lydia (Pat) Maresh; sister, Irene (Jerald) Shaver; brother, Walter (Kathy) Werden; step brother, Carl Harmon; brother in law, Dan Jarvis; 10 grandchildren, Sarah (Bill) Scott, Rayanna (Ernest Jr.) Vanier, Rose (Chad) Powell, Amanda (Jason) Pace, Crystal (Jose) Hinojosa, Lianne (Steve) Noser, Tyler (Erin) Bitters, Brian Bazanni, Danielle (Zach) Fisher and Rachel (Robby) Boyer; 29 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Rayma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Bitters; father, Walter Werden; mother, Edith (Davis-Werden) Harmon; step-father, Walter Harmon; mother and father in-law, John and Mary Ruth (Hazen) Bitters; daughter, Mary Jane (Bitters-Wilson) Roberts; granddaughter, Carolyn (Wilson) Hume; sister, Illa (Werden) Rutherford; sister Cecila (Werden) Jarvis; step sister, Geraldine (Harmon) Ferrenburg.
