Born in: Mineola, New York
Resided in: St. Johns, Florida

On Sunday, February 8, 2026, Robert “Bob” James Hejnas Sr. passed away at Baptist Hospital in downtown Jacksonville, FL, at the age of 70.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria (70); son, Robert Hejnas, Jr. (45) and his wife Kayla Roberts (42); son, David (40) and his wife Savanna (38); grandchildren Julian (19), Ben (14), Hudson (11), Reid (9), and Madelyn (6).

Bob was born on October 6, 1955, as the third of five children to Andrew and Eleanor Hejnas in Mineola, NY, on Long Island. He grew up in Uniondale, graduated from Uniondale High School in 1974, married Gloria in 1978, and moved the family to Jacksonville, FL in 1994. He spent 47 loyal years working for Northrop Grumman and retired in 2024 as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer. He proudly served on the development and production of the F-14 Tomcat, E-2C Hawkeye, and E-2D Hawkeye, among other aircraft and projects.

Bob was an avid sports fan, rooting for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Florida State Seminoles, New York Mets, and New York Knicks. He thoroughly enjoyed golf, playing at least twice a week in retirement. He enjoyed the beach, his daily walks, being part of the “Sunset Club” at Alpine Grove Park, a cold Grolsch or Michelob Ultra beer, Thursday nights at Donovan’s Pub with his friends, NY delis, and his bright blue Chevrolet Corvette.

His family is honoring his wishes and will not be having a funeral. A celebration of life is being planned for some time in March; details to come in the near future. In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family requests donations to Toys for Tots in his honor, a charity near and dear to his heart.
