Robert H. Tate

March 29, 1950 – September 8, 2025

Robert H. Tate, lovingly known as “Bob” or “Tater,” passed away peacefully at his home in The Villages, Florida, on September 8, 2025, at the age of 75.

Bob was born on March 29, 1950, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A proud graduate of the University of Delaware, he was a loyal Sigma Nu brother and spent his early summers as a lifeguard with the Ocean City Beach Patrol — a cherished role in a beloved place he enjoyed returning to with family and friends

Bob had many passions throughout his life. He loved skiing, never let his (undeniably average) golf game stop him from enjoying every round, and was a die-hard fan of Notre Dame football and his Philadelphia teams; the Eagles and the Phillies— cheering them on nearly every game.

Driven in business and deeply devoted to his family, Bob will be remembered for his hard work, resilience, and above all, his generous spirit. He was a fiercely loyal man who loved deeply, gave freely, and never hesitated to offer support.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Janice Jackson Tate; his children, Matthew and Maureen Tate; his three step-children Jonathan, Jennifer, and Jessica; and his grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Quinn; brother-in-law, Dick Quinn; and a loving extended family. Bob was preceded in death by his loving parents, Doris and Hugh Tate.

In keeping with his wishes, no formal memorial service will be held. Family and friends are invited to honor Bob in their own way — perhaps with a toast at sunset, a Fighting Irish game watch, a round of golf, or simply a quiet moment down the shore.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to:

  3. Tater was a force of nature at Sigma Nu at the University of Delaware so many years ago. All of we brother Snakes could tell hundreds of stories of his exploits. It wasn't that he was the life of the party….he was the party. We'll miss you Tater, but be sustained by the wonderful memories you created for all of us. Rest in eternal peace.
