Robert Sawyers, Jr.

Robert John Sawyers, Jr, passed Saturday, April 16, 2022, in Jacksonville, FL. Born September 30, 1954 at Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage, AK, he was firstborn of Lillian Ruth Justh and Robert J. Sawyers, who predecease him. He grew up in Merrick, NY, graduating from Sanford Calhoun High School. He accepted a Navy ROTC scholarship to The Ohio State University where he majored in Business Administration. Upon graduation, he received his commission as an Ensign and attended the Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, GA. He served for ten years aboard frigates and in Charleston, SC; Gulfport, MS; and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After discharge, he pursued his MBA at the University of Dayton and had a career in logistics.

He is survived by his children: Meredith Schrein (Tiff Dyer), Alexander Sawyers (fiance Timothy Whaley), and Sean Sawyers, grandson, Reid Schrein, all of central Ohio; sister, Terry Ann Sawyers of Daytona Beach, FL; brother Gary (Regina), niece Grace, nephew, Gary Sawyers, Jr., of Princeton Junction, NJ; and numerous cousins and friends.  Crevasse’s Simple Cremation is honored to serve the Sawyers family.

  4. To the Sawyer family… I enjoyed many vacations with my extended family. Visits to the lake in Kissimmee, train visits to Merrick. The memories are as vivid as the day they occurred. Visits to Columbus over the years were all very special. I am wishing peace to the family and hoping your family memories will remain strong. Bobby will always hold a special place in my heart. Love cousin Roy.
