Ruth Polnyj

January 24, 1930 ~ February 26, 2025

Ruth Ida Polnyj (Eberle) of Nutley, Wayne, Bay Head NJ and North Port FL, passed away peacefully on February 26th at the Haven Hospice Center in Gainesville Florida. She was 95 years old. Ruth was born and raised in Tubach Switzerland. She was a skilled equestrian as a young girl. She also trained as a Pharmacist Assistant. After working for a short time, she traveled to America and met her future husband Paul on the ship the Isle de France. She worked for a while as an Au Pair for a wealthy family in Englewood and the Hamptons before returning to marry Paul Polnyj in Switzerland. The couple returned to the United States to begin a family. While raising three children she managed to work as a travel agent and eventually opened her own agency and was a successful businesswoman.

Ruth is predeceased by her husband Paul Polnyj, her parents Gottfried and Ida Eberle, and her sister Judith Eberle. She is survived by her three children Cornel Polnyj and his wife Carrie, Beatrice Wessol and her husband Paul, and Christina Pollman and her husband Curt. Ruth also has five grandchildren and five great grandchildren with another due in April. Stephanie Polnyj, Andrew Polnyj and his wife Elisabeth and their child Gus. Matthew Wessol and his expectant wife Lauren and their children Jane, and Milo. Olivia Bellar and her husband Jordan and their children Hudson and Finn. Also, grandson Mark Wessol.

Ruth will be remembered for her love of travel that she shared with her whole family as well as her excellent cooking and baking skills. She was fluent in several languages and enjoyed knitting and sewing. She was an avid swimmer. At 5 years old she taught herself to swim, by jumping into the Bodensee near her home in Switzerland. Ruth loved to read and spend time with her family and friends. She was active in the Swiss Benevolent Society and had a strong Catholic faith. Many good memories sharing her love of the ocean and her Bay Head home with her family. She will be dearly missed.
