Samuel David Lanzarotta
April 4, 1937 - August 12, 2022
Samuel David Lanzarotta (Sam) passed away peacefully on Friday, August 12, 2022 at the age of 85. Sam was born in Akron, Ohio at St. Thomas Hospital. He enjoyed many happy times in the Akron area including meeting his wife Jean, raising his family of four, working as a right of way engineer for Ohio Bell and taking time to enjoy boating, skiing, camping, hiking, flying, sailing, gardening, Sunday car rides, and so much more!
He took an early retirement and traveled across the country for over a year in an RV with his wife Jean making priceless memories along the way. They settled in Jacksonville, FL once their first grandchild was born! Sam enjoyed the Florida life and taught his grandchildren how to fish, play tennis and have fun! He was also an awesome cook and clipped many recipes from the paper to share with his family and friends. He was a practical joker and loved a good story and lots of laughs. He was a member of the Northeast Florida Wood Carvers club and carved many beautiful pieces including shore birds, a manatee, and pink flamingos to name a few. He was an avid tennis player and loved the camaraderie at the tennis courts.
Sam is survived by his wife of 64 years Jean Lanzarotta; four children - Shari; David (Chris); Patti (Rodney); and Keith. His five grandchildren - David Samuel (Lindsay); Cara (Marcus); Kristen; Matthew (Amanda) and Kayla were his pride and joy (he could often be overheard boasting about each one of them at various times and carried photos to the tennis court, carving club, doctor appointments and even the barber shop!)
He was also very proud of and loved his dear sister Linda, brothers Joe (Carol) and Glen as well as his nephews Dan (Megan, Aria & Logan) and Tom and nieces Cindy, Patty (Alex) and Jessica (Bradlee & Wesley), cousins and many friends who were like family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Samuel Lanzarotta (Marcelena Lanzarotta) and Eileen McKenna, brother Jim and great grandson Leo.
