  1. Shawn was such a blessing to me. His consistently articulated questions on wildlife, from a bird he recently saw to an animal encounter that he had, always drew his detailed analysis as he sought to learn more. I enjoyed every question, as he listened intently to everything I offered. I think he was innately a biologist, as he sought to understand everything about the wildlife around him.

I was so excited to het him to southeast Alaska, to spend more time talking about animals, learning more about wildlife and always getting his smile, as he offered a cute connection or inside joke.

I was blessed to know him, even though our paths crossed later in life. Continued prayers!

  2. Shawn and I grew up in the same small town in Michigan and we shared misadventures in high school. Afterward we scattered, but interestingly ended up following similar paths in our professional lives in the military and, later, as DoD employees. On several occasions, young service members I worked with mentioned Shawn and occasionally I would see him and we would say hello. It was always a pleasure.  Shawn’s Facebook photo standing in front of a military vehicle, with a keffiyah around his neck and holding an automatic rifle, will, for me, be the most badass ever on social media. I will remember him always. May his memory be a blessing to his family and loved ones. From God we come, and to Him we return.

  3. Shawn was one of a kind.  Probably the most adventurous person I’ve ever known.  Always greeted you with a smile and something quirky to say that made you laugh.  He was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend.  He will surely be missed.  Rest in peace, my friend 🙏

  4. I met Shawn in the late 90s in Bahrain when he was a Senior Chief and I was a 2nd Class Petty Officer. What a wonderful human being he was. I later met Cheryl in Stuttgart, Germany and they became among my favorite people there. I will always remember the loving relationship they had and the role models they are for a happy marriage. My deepest condolences on Shawn’s death. What a loss for his family and friends.

  5. I went through school with Shawn, from grade school at St. Micheals to high school at Flushing. Just recently I had contact with him at our 50th high school reunion and most recently at a local pharmacy and some e-mail contact. My condolences to his family and friends. Everyone seemed to agree what a great person he was. I know he will be missed.
