Shirley Ann Chwat (nee Patrick), born in Evanston, IL on May 10, 1930, passed peacefully on May 15, 2024.
Shirley was a beloved wife to Edwin Chwat (d); devoted mother to Edwin Jr (Susan), Catherine (William Namet), Robert, James (Debra Sachs), and Andrew (Carla); adored grandmother to Emily (Jason Kaartunen), Laura (Anthony Dettore), Michael, Carly, and Margaret; and proud great-grandmother to Heidi, Kelsey, Lincoln, Mira, and Nash. She is also survived by nephews Frank and Richard Patrick and lifelong friend, Elaine Long.
Shirley lived her life selflessly, putting the needs of family and friends above her own. She worked proudly in service to others as an office manager at Herman Gardens in Detroit, MI and as a creative Troop Leader with the Girl Scouts for many years. Ever curious, Shirley spent her retired years seeking answers to any (and every) question that popped into her head…and, of course, hosted the BEST holiday parties!
We were blessed to have Shirley in our lives for so many years and will hold her always in our hearts.
Shirley’s ashes will be interred next to her husband at St. Peters United Church of Christ cemetery in Skokie, IL.
In lieu of sending flowers, please feel free to make a donation in Shirley’s honor to the charity of your choice.
Crevasse's Simple Cremation is honored to serve the Chwat family.
