Signa Cutter

July 12, 2020

Ana Signa Duran Cutter, known as Signa, 93, of Gainesville, FL, passed away from a brief illness on July 12, 2020.

Signa was born in Ibague, Tolima in Colombia, on January 26, 1927, to Martin Duran and Ana Joaquina Garcia.  She enjoyed her early years with her 2 brothers and 3 sisters in Ibague and then the family moved to Bogota, Colombia, where she attended high school.

In 1953, at age 26, Signa moved to Miami, Florida, to learn English and attend nursing school.  She graduated from Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach, FL, on February 21, 1954, as an LPN.

On November 30, 1957, she married the love of her life, Paul S Cutter Jr, from Hopewell, NJ.  Signa and Paul lived in Rockaway, NJ, where they had a son, David P Cutter.  They later moved to Parsippany, NJ, and had a daughter, Anne J Cutter.

Signa was a homemaker who took care of her two children.  She loved to garden, spend time in her apartment in El Rodadero, Colombia, and was an amazing cook.

In 1991, Signa and Paul retired to Palm Coast, FL.  Sadly, she lost her husband in March of 1995 and later moved to St. Augustine, FL.  She lived in St. Augustine for nearly 20 years and continued to travel, garden, and spend time with her family here in the US and in Colombia.

She is survived by her son David and his wife Nicola (St. Augustine, FL); daughter Anne and her partner Nancy (Gainesville, FL); and grandchildren Lucas, Amelia, and Miles, Sister Teresa Diez(Bogota, Colombia); Brother Marcio Duran (Floridablanca, Santander, Colombia); as well as her many nieces and nephews in Colombia.
