Susan Calvert

December 8, 2020

Susan Terry Calvert, age 77, of The Villages, Fl went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. She passed peacefully and is now rejoicing with family members and friends who have gone before her.

Susan was born on May 14, 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Magnificat High School in 1961. She later received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Dayton, where she met her husband, Nick.

After many years as a homemaker, she achieved her Master’s Degree in Mathematics from Middle Tennessee State University. She later taught math at Columbia State College.

Susan also resided in Bucyrus, OH; Jackson, TN; Columbia, TN; Paragould, AR; Dyersburg, TN; Hopkinsville, KY and then she and her husband retired to The Villages, FL in 2002.

Susan made life-long friends in each town she resided, and never met a stranger. She spent much of her free time reading, playing golf and being involved in many activities but the one she loved the most was developing an intimate relationship with Jesus. She also loved greeting at church, Care Group, Bible Study, and volunteering at Vacation Bible School. Her favorite missions were those involving children. One of her passions was volunteering as a teacher’s assistant and mentoring/tutoring at a nearby elementary school.

Susan also enjoyed writing letters and talking to friends and family. She had a genuine interest in the well-being of others and always had a smile on her face. She was always the first to laugh and was humble enough to laugh at herself.

She lived and loved well.

She was preceded in death by her parents Orville Edward and Mildred Basile Terry. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Nicholas Preston Calvert; son, Mike Calvert and his wife Maria; daughter, Elizabeth Whitehead and her husband Roy. She also leaves six brothers and sisters; Tom Terry, Tim Terry, Ted Terry, Nancy Nirosky, Jack Terry and Judy Uline and five grandchildren; Laughton Whitehead, Andrew Whitehead, Ellen Whitehead, Grace Calvert and Kate Calvert.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at stjude.org or Zion’s Hope at zionshope.org.

Guestbook

  1. Susan and I became best friends through sharing the Word of God in many ways. We attended Jackson Christian Womens' Club and from that organization we became Friendship Bible Coffee leaders of neighborhood Bible studies. We each had a study in our homes and we would lead studies in other women's homes. It was a beautiful way to share Jesus with other women around our kitchen or dining room tables. To this day I am still leading these studies and right now in my home. We were truly neighbors in the Springbrook Lakes Estates area. Our children went to the same school at the time they were here (their two were a little younger than my four). We have stayed in touch by mail, phone, or visits no matter where Nick and Susan moved to. I cherish the memory of Susan–her sweet nature, her concern for others. Love to family, Lynne
