Susan Connell MacLean, 77, passed away surrounded by family on April 30th at Haven Hospice’s E.T. York Care Center after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Sue was born on October 2, 1943 in Lake Worth, FL to Ryan and Adair Connell.
In 1961, she married her high school sweetheart, Gordon (Buz) MacLean. After living in Miami and Jacksonville, Buz and Sue settled in Gainesville in 1967.
Sue was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. She loved her family and the Gators. There was nothing she loved more than her girls and she supported them in all aspects of their lives. To many of their friends, she was affectionately known as Helen. Her favorite title was Granny. She adored her grandchildren and loved watching their soccer games, band concerts and dance recitals. She often said that if she had known how much fun grandchildren were, she would have had them first! After her family, her love was the Gators and traveling for Gator games. She was the group navigator for the “Gator Chasers” and always the one in charge of the travel agenda.
Sue spent much of her time volunteering in her community. In 1996 Sue was the volunteer of the year for the Gainesville Sports Commission (formerly GSOC), she was active in the Elk wives and was a founding member of the Florida Goal Liners.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Buz; children-Lisa Duncanson (Dan), Laura MacLean (Cissy Witt), and Amy MacLean; grandchildren-Danny Duncanson, Jennifer Duncanson, Lauren Duncanson and Madison Duncanson; brother-Dennis Connell; and cousins and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Daniel Eliot MacLean.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the nursing and medical staff at Terrace Health & Rehabilitation and Haven Hospice for the care she received.
Please consider a donation in Sue’s name to Haven Hospice or Alz Place. Please visit her memorial page at crevassesimplecremation.com.

Thoughts and prayers for Sue's family for their loss. I have great memories of Sue tailgating at Gator home games. She was quite the hostess, always making us feel welcome.
