Thomas Milnes Olmsted, 86, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025. Born on September 17, 1938, in Coldwater, Michigan, Thomas made Gainesville his home for many years, where he served as the finance director at the North Central Florida Regional Planning Council until his retirement.
Thomas is survived by his sisters Louise (Gene) Fry (née Olmsted) and Gretchen Tompkins (née Olmsted), along with many nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Kenneth Olmsted and Margaret Milnes Olmsted, and his sister Mary Fisher (nee Olmsted), all of Coldwater, Michigan.
Throughout his life, Thomas found great joy in cultivating meaningful friendships, curating his various collections, reading, and spending time in nature. His kind spirit and genuine interest in others endeared him to all who knew him.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Thomas's life at a memorial service to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the local library or nature conservation organization of your choice, honoring Thomas's love for the natural world he so cherished.

Thomas rented two storage units at my facility to house his many collections, and whenever he would come in to pay his rent, we would talk for a while about life in general. After I moved on to a new job, we kept in touch. I will always treasure the conversations we had through the years.
