April 10, 1956 ~ July 4, 2025

Valerie Jo Scott (1956–2025)

Valerie Scott, aka “Mimi,” passed away on July 4, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on April 10, 1956 to Tom Sr. and Vera Scott, Valerie grew up in Macclenny, Florida, where she graduated from Baker County High School in 1974. Later, while raising her small children , she pursued her calling as a registered nurse, earning her degree from Lake City Community College in 1988. Her career was marked by compassion and dedication, touching countless lives with her care. Aside from her dedication to nursing, Valerie was a motorcycle enthusiast who loved to travel.

Valerie is survived by her siblings, Vicki Phillips, Tom Scott Jr., and Jeanne Minard, and children: daughters Toni Ellison and Staci Mordujovich (Eddie), and sons Nathan Ellison (Sharee), Dave Opachich (Dusti), and Jimmy Opachich (Tiffany). Her legacy continues through her 18 grandchildren—Thomas, Bella, Molli, Ellie, Hannah, Ari, Maggie, Keller, Levi, Kiyah, Symphony, Chloe, Liberty, Gage, Trudy, Aurora, Devin and Brady —and two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Liora. Valerie was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jimmy Scott.

Valerie’s faith in Jesus Christ was important to her, and she desired for all her children to know the hope and comfort found in Him. "A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not quench.” Matthew 12:20.

A memorial service will be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Hospice of Jacksonville

Crevasse's Simple Cremation is honored to serve the Scott Family.

Guestbook

  1. Valerie was a beautiful person inside and out.  I had the privilege of working with her at Lake Butler Hospital. She was always smiling.  Prayers for you all.

  2. We are praying His peace over each of you during this time. I thought very highly of your Mom when we worked together at LBH years ago.

  3. I am so sorry for the loss of Valerie. I grew up going to church with her and graduated with Jimmy. I saw Valerie in salt Springs a few years back and I know that she will be missed terribly by those who knew and loved her. May God comfort you all during this difficult time.🙏🙏🙏

  4. I wish to express my sincerest condolences to the friends and family of Valeria. God cares about your grief and tears. One Bible writer said to God: "Do collect my tears in your skin bottle. Are they not recorded in your book?" – Psalm 56:8
Remember, while the void you feel in your heart may not disappear, with God's tender help, you can cherish your memories of her and you can still enjoy warm friendships and a purposeful life. And soon God will eliminate death. He wants you to be able to embrace your loved one again. Then that pain in your heart will be healed forever. The scriptures provided me and my family comfort by helping us see Gods loving plan for those who enter rest. For comfort from the Bible please visit https://bit.ly/truthlifedeath

  11. Valerie was the sister of one of my best friends, Vickie, growing up. I spent a lot of time at their house and considered their parents as my second parents. Even into older years, Valerie was always so pretty.  I remember one time in elementary school showing her a picture of a princess that I thought looked like her, and I liked to pretend that she was that princess! Just like her dad, she always had a youthful appearance. Praying for the family.

  12. I knew of Valerie thru an uncle with Hospice and my brother George. She was a special person, always a smile!

  14. Nothing Gold Can Stay
    BY ROBERT FROST

    Nature’s first green is gold,
    Her hardest hue to hold.
    Her early leaf’s a flower;
    But only so an hour.
    Then leaf subsides to leaf.
    So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
    Nothing gold can stay.

Prayers and comfort for family and friends of this truly GOLDEN soul.

  15. Valerie was very special to me. We became friends our senior year of High School. She had the biggest heart. A smile that lit up a room and great sense of humor. The world is diminished by her passing. She will always be “The Valerie Scott” to me!

  16. Our prayers and Sympathies go out to your blessed family.  We pray your heart and soul have rest now-God Bless You.
