It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of our mother Vivian Jeanette (Thomas) Dees, who went to be with the Lord on January 25, 2019, peacefully in her sleep, at 3:54PM. She had just celebrated her 84th birthday. She spent the years since retirement from the Alachua County School Board, working in her yard with her many types of flowers and plants. She even mowed the grass herself with her 30-year-old Snapper mower up until a few months ago. Mom was also known in the Waccasassa neighborhood where she lived for nearly 40 years, as the lady with all the Christmas lights every year. So she just enjoyed her last year of her favorite time of year, her savior’s birth and celebration. She had just finished taking down lights a couple weeks ago. Mom was preceded in death by her mother and father Dorothy “Dot” (Hines) Thomas and Earnest Andrew Thomas, and her loving son Bill Andrew Dees. She is survived by her two loving sons; Jed Allen Dees (Sue), Bob Russell Dees (Peggy), and her loving daughter Debra (Dede Rain) Bivens (Steve), along with 6 grandkids and 12 great grandkids. Crevasse's Simple Cremation is honored to serve the Dees family during this time.

Jeanette Dees was a wonderful lady who loved her family very much, she was well known, and respected in Alachua County, and in other districts, and as well as other states. Many people would call on her for advice regarding transportation. I came to the Transportation Department in October 1987. Jeanette Dees was the Transportation Manager. I am thankful for having the privilege of meeting this great person, and working under her, she taught me many things about this department. Ms. Dees was a dear friend of mine, she will be missed, but never forgotten.
