WILLIAM T. DAVIS Sr.

 

William T. (Bill) Davis, Sr. of Gainesville, Florida passed away peacefully on May 26, 2017 at The E.T. York Haven Hospice Care Center with family at his side.

Beloved husband of Mette, his wife of 57 years, they were truly blessed and thankful for their lives together and for the love of a wonderful family and friends.

Bill was born on April 16, 1930 in Anniston, Alabama. His father was Eugene Kelly Davis, Sr. and mother was Bessie Mae Bryant. Bill’s uncle, William Howard Bryant and aunt Sarah were Missionaries to Chile for many years in the late thirties and early forties.

Bill grew up and lived in the beautiful community of Ortega in Jacksonville, Florida. His Mother & Father were Charter members of the Ortega Baptist Church. He began school at the Ortega Elementary school, graduated from Robert Lee High in 1950.

 Bill had the honor of serving his country with the United States Marine Corps, during the Korean Conflict, upon returning home resumed his education at Jacksonville University where he studied Accounting, and studied Computer Science at the University of Florida. He was a member of West Side Baptist Church, a Mason and lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge 41, of Gainesville, Fl.  His work took him to Gainesville, Fl where he worked with GMAC and it was in Gainesville where he met and married the light of his life, Mette Elsa Andreasen.

Bill met and went to work with Ben Franklin at Franklin Crates, Inc. where he worked as secretary-treasurer for 42 years until he retired  in 2002.

Bill & Mette were blessed by God with two wonderful children. And  is survived by his Daughter Deanne Gouge two grandsons, William M. Gouge and Kristopher A. Gouge (Ocala, Fl.), a son William T. (Billy) Davis Jr., his daughter-in-law Lou Ann Davis and step-grandson Ira Richard  Holland of Trenton, Fl.

Bill was preceded in death by His wife Mette, his father Eugene Kelly Davis, Sr. (1952) his mother Bessie M. Davis (1989) a brother Eugene Kelly Davis, Jr. (1972), a sister Virginia D. Godwin (2005), brother-in-law John J. (Barney) Godwin, Captain USN (2002).

    

He will be sorely missed by his family to whom he was always a loving caring and thoughtful father and husband.

His family will always carry Bill’s Motto, “Semper Fidelis” (Always Faithful), in their hearts.

The Family will hold a Memorial Services, and an Inurnment will be held on Thursday June 8, 2017, at 11:00 am; Florida National Cemetery located at Bushnell, Fl. 33513

  1. Deanne, your dad was such a nice and friendly man in which we had the pleasure of knowing. I know you miss him a lot. Hold him in your heart for ever and speak to him each day. One day we shall see our parents and loved ones again as long as we are saved by the grace of God. What a joyous day that will be! We love you Deanne!
