William Williams

July 3, 2022

William(Bill)E. Williams, 65, of Ocala, Florida passed away surrounded by loved ones at Ocala Regional Hospital on July 3, 2022. His illness came suddenly but his passing was peaceful. Bill was born in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 1, 1956, the son of late Houston and Constance Inez(Goad)  Williams. The family soon moved to Lumberton, Texas, where he graduated from Lumberton High School in 1974. Bill then graduated from Lamar University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Physics degree with honors from The National Physics Society. He went on to acquire a Master of Science in 1981 then a Doctor of Philosophy in laser physics from North Texas State University, graduating in 1984. Bill married his loving wife Ann in 1983 and moved to Florida to work in the optical and laser research industry as a project manager before retiring in 2019. Bill's interest in optics came from a lifelong interest in cameras and photography. He was active in animal rescue organizations by fostering cats, and was also was a member of Florida Rare Fruit Growers.

Bill is survived by wife Ann; children: David and Michelle.

  1. I worked with Dr. Williams for several years. I remember his amazing knowledge of physics, light and lasers and he inspired me to excel in my own field of study. Outside of his work knowledge, he could be quiet and reserved. So when I found out I was going to travel with him on a 6 hour plane trip, sitting beside him, I thought – "This is going to be one quiet trip". I was wrong! Stumbling across his love of Porsches, Mythbusters (a popular science show at the time), and cats, I don't think I got two words in before we were on our approach to land!

Dr. Williams was a fascinating man and I extend my condolences to Ann and the family.

  2. I know I am late to get the news of Bill’s passing. I have attempted numerous times to trace him down in the past to no avail. We were close friends in high school and worked together in the photography for the school. I always knew he would accomplish so much. He taught me so much about photography and patiently mentored me in some of my advanced classes. We had great times together that will not be forgotten. He was a kind and gentle person, not to mention one of the most intelligent people I have ever known. Thanks Bill for being such a wonderful friend. I hope you will rest peacefully in the loving arms of Jesus and his glory.
