Al remembered wearing knickers in the 1930's and delivering Western Union telegrams by bicycle in the 1940's. He was considered a math wiz in school and skipped a grade. Al was a proud member of the U.S. Coast Guard in the early 1950's during the Korean War years. Al's passion was business. Wheeling and dealing were his hobbies. He became an entrepreneur while still in his 20's. In the late 1950's and 1960's, Al traveled the world selling various merchandise. He had to be his own boss and do things his way. "My Way" sung by Frank Sinatra described Al's feelings about work. He also pursued justice in many a Court House, seeking a right to any wrong. Al eschewed alcohol, tobacco, and exercise. He loved fresh vegetables, fruit, and fish, along with ice cream, candy, and cake. Al's favorite TV show (which happened to be the Ken Burns documentary), "The Roosevelts," premiered on PBS in 2014, and he watched it then and every year since. Al's favorite movie was "Meet Joe Black," and he often repeated the line "The truth is every bit as certain as death and taxes." Al is survived by his loving wife of 23 years; 3 children (and spouses); 5 grandchildren; 3 siblings (and spouses); nephews and nieces (and spouses); cousins; in laws; and friends, all of whom will miss his telephone calls and humor.
