Charles "Chuck" Hart

June 27, 2024

**Charles Dudley Hart**
November 2, 1941 – June 27, 2024
Charles Dudley Hart, known affectionately as "Chuck," passed away
peacefully on June 27, 2024, in Gainesville, Florida, at the age of 82.
Born on November 2, 1941 to Kathleen Upton Golder and Dudley
Howard Hart, Chuck grew up with a passion for sports and excelled
as an exceptional athlete, playing both golf and football for the
University of Florida. His love for golf, however, became his lifelong
pursuit and career.

Chuck began his illustrious career in golf in Rochester, New York, where he worked at Chili Country
Club and Brook-Lea Country Club. He later moved to Buffalo, where he made a significant impact
at Wanakah Country Club before heading down to Miami Beach to join La Gorce Country Club.
Chuck's career then led him to manage several golf courses in South Florida, including Lago Mar
Country Club, before eventually culminating in the purchase of Lake Shore Country Club in
Rochester, which he ran in partnership with his son, Dudley.

Throughout his professional career, Chuck's accomplishments were numerous. He not only
competed in local and state professional tournaments but also qualified for four major
championships, including the U.S. Open in 1975 and the PGA Championship in 1970, 1973, and
1974. His skills on the course were matched by his generous contributions to the golfing
community, where he mentored and supported countless professionals.

Chuck was known not just for his golfing prowess but for his contagious laugh, powerful energy, and
big heart. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Dawn Osborn Hart, and their children and
grandchildren. His children include Joseph (Kate) Dole, Carrie (Rick) Stratton, Kathy (Mark) Hart
Wood, Dudley (Suzanne) Hart, Joshua Osborn, and Kelsee Osborn. Chuck was a proud grandfather
to nine grandchildren, Madison, Ben, Charlee, Samantha, Riley, Ryan, Rachel, Abigail, Avery, Sam
and Harry, as well as two great-grandchildren, Winnie and Nolan. He also leaves behind his dearly
loved goldendoodle, Bunker.

A private memorial gathering to celebrate Chuck's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers,
the family requests that donations be made to Rochester Honor Flight, an organization close to
Chuck's heart.

Chuck's legacy will live on through the many lives he touched, both on and off the golf course. He
will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Guestbook

  1. Dawn you and your family are in my thoughts. I loved spending time with you guys in the dining room. My heart hurts.

  2. Had the pleasure of meeting the Hart family in the mid 80's.  Mr Hart became the head pro where my family were members. Countless memories of him laughing (if you knew him an unbelievable laugh) and playing pranks. He gave me enough pointers that I'm not sure I would been blessed to play the PGA Tour without knowing him. He was and still is one the most consequential people I've meet in my life. So many memories of staying at his house with Dudley and his sisters house which was 6-7 miles from my parents. His one putt ability with a bullseye putter will forever be ingrained in my memory. I'll miss you Mr Hart. My best to the family.

  3. Chuck is a wonderful man who has shown my family nothing but kindness and love while my father was alive and even more after he passed. I will never forget the kindness he and his family has shown us .. much love to you all during these sad times.. 🥰

  4. I was blessed to know the genial and humble man Chuck was. And forever grateful for his support and generosity to military veterans through Honor Flight Rochester.

  5. Dawn and Family. I am so sorry for your loss when I heard of Chuck’s passing. He was a great supporter of Honor Flight Rochester and will be missed.

  6. Chuck had an undeniable, and positive impact on the lives of many people here, and it was our pleasure to have known him.  We loved him, and our prayers and thoughts go out to Dawn, Dudley, Kathy, and the family.

  7. Before I met Chuck, I was fortunate enough to have his son-in-law MARK WOOD as my golf teacher. I met Chuck shortly there after when he became involved with our club Lago Mar. He along with MARK were the two most instrumental people in my golf life. Mark’s technical teaching And Chuck’s Mentoring Enabled me to go far beyond what I ever expected to do in golf. We played golf at Lago Mar three or four times a week and he taught me a number of great lessons about life and golf. The period that he was at Lago Mar Was the most successful years our club ever knew. His leadership and tremendous knowledge about every facet of the club were the reasons for our success. My sincerest condolences go out to Dawn, Kathy, Dudley, MARK, and all of his great progeny. I will keep his influences and memory with me forever.

  15. Charles Dudley "Chuck" Hart was a big man, with a big laugh, a big golf game, and especially big heart. Chuck moved with the
elites of golf, but he never forgot his friends and his roots.
Chuck was a mentor, coach, and golf professional to a great
many amateurs, but was always willing to spend some time to
actually play many rounds with them.
For a big man, Chuck had a great touch around the golf course, but he was also a soft touch for friends and family. Our condolence to Dawn and Chuck's extended family.
