Clarence “Burt” LeRoy Fritz, Jr., an insurance industry leader and a man whose greatest
joy came when he brought his family together, died May 2, 2020. He was 85.
Mr. Fritz, a resident of Ponte Vedra, FL, was born March 3, 1935 in Cranford, NJ, the
son of Clarence LeRoy Fritz Sr. and Gretchen Fritz.
He graduated from Cranford High School in 1953. There he played several sports and
was honored in 2015 by the New Jersey school’s Hall of Fame for his distinguished
accomplishments on the football field.
Mr. Fritz went on to complete a Bachelor’s degree from Lafayette College in Easton, PA,
in 1957. While there, he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) Fraternity. Prior to
graduation, he met and fell in love with the former Carol Ann Bauer and they were
married in 1956. They lived a full life together, celebrating 61 years of marriage, until
Carol Ann’s passing in 2018.
After graduation, he entered the insurance industry. Over the decades, he rose through the
ranks before retiring in 1995 as Vice President at Prudential Insurance.
Throughout his life, Mr. Fritz enjoyed golfing, watching movies, coaching youth sports
and watching his grandsons in their activities. But his greatest joy always was the time he
spent with his family. In recent years, he fondly gathered his extended family together for
large reunions.
He was predeceased by his parents and wife, his sister Patsy (Fritz) Humphries and his
daughter-in-law Debbie Dyer Fritz. He is survived by his sisters Margaret (Fritz) Shire
and Betty (Fritz) Thompson, his children Laura (Fritz) Rutherford, Thomas LeRoy Fritz
(Nancy), grandsons Matthew J. Rutherford (Lindsey), Thomas LeRoy Fritz Jr.
(Mackenzie), James D. Fritz, Daniel E. Rutherford, and his great-granddaughter Amelia
Fritz.
The family is asking donations be made in his memory to The First Tee, a charity providing educational programs that build character and instill life-enhancing values through the game of golf. Memorial gifts may be made online to First Tee at: https://firsttee.org/donate using either Clarence Fritz or Burt Fritz.

Burt was my mentor at Prudential and started me off on my career. He took the time to help me when there was really no reason for him to do that. To the family, sorry for the loss of a teally good man. He was a top notch exec, and I for one will really miss him.
Laura,
