Diane Kay (Gillaspie) Spaur, 78, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, after a short stay at Cate’s House Hospice in Ocala, Florida. Born on January 31, 1947, in Centerville, Iowa, Diane was the oldest child of Robert and Madge (Gilliland) Gillaspie.
Diane grew up with a deep love for animals, reading and nature, which carried throughout her life. She could often be found with a cat on her lap or walking up the lane with the dogs. She enjoyed working with her hands, and was employed at various manufacturing companies in Oskaloosa, Iowa, including Big Smith Overall Factory and Paslode. After retiring from Paslode, she worked as a secretary at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, also in Oskaloosa. In 2014, she and her husband moved to Ocala, Florida to be near their daughter.
Diane is survived by Larry Spaur, her beloved spouse of 58 years, her daughter Julie Spaur (Don Richardson), grandson Jordan Saltonstall (Sage Leeson,) sister Lana Gillaspie, and brother Dean and (Joyce) Gillaspie, and many nieces and nephews.
Diane was preceded in death by both of her parents, Robert and Madge Gillaspie.
A memorial will not be held at this time. Diane’s wishes were to be cremated and taken to her hometown of Bussey, Iowa to be buried in Liberty Cemetery with her spouse after he passes.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Diane’s memory to The Marion County Humane Society in Knoxville, Iowa or The American Heart Association. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caregivers at Advent Hospital and Cate’s House Hospice.
Diane will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who love her.
