Dorathy Harrison, 77, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on October 31, 2026, with her family by her side. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, and she will be deeply missed by all. Please contact the family for details of the upcoming service they are holding.
Dot was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on March 24, 1949, to Karl and Hattie Kauffman. She dedicated her life to her family and the people she loved. Her journey took her to places like Cuba and all over the United States, and wherever she landed, she always did her best to make each place feel like home. For Dot, home was never just a place; it was the people she loved.
Dot was a gifted cook and baker whose cakes were the centerpiece of countless celebrations. She enjoyed watching Survivor, The Voice and baking shows. Her talents were many, including crocheting, winemaking, macramé, and even writing stories and poems, but her greatest talent was her ability to love people. Dot found her greatest joy “playing” in the kitchen with her loved ones, whether trying a new recipe, learning a new technique, or simply making a wonderful mess. The kitchen was her happy place.
Dot had a gift for building community. She welcomed new neighbors and turned strangers into friends and friends into family, and once you were family to Dot, you were always family. Her kindness and generosity knew no limits. She organized company fundraisers while she was working and continued to participate and help out long after retirement. Dot faced life’s ups and downs the way she did everything else: with grace, love and a good joke. Her humor never faded, and her quick wit will be remembered by everyone lucky enough to have shared a laugh with her.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Carolann Gropp and Virginia Kauffman; her brother, Larry Kauffman; and her granddaughter, Ryen Neal.
She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Neal (David) and Susan McWayne; her son, Guy Harrison (Alicia); her grandchildren, Justin, Aidan, Erin, Cody, Cory and Kayla; her great-grandchildren, Harlie and Haven; her brother, Eugene Kauffman; her niece, Danielle Gropp (Randy Girard); and her nephews, William Gropp, Larry Kauffman Jr. and Eugene Kauffman Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Dot’s name to her favorite charity, the Clara White Mission: https://clarawhitemission.org/form
