Will miss my dear Uncle Steve. He has joined a growing number of family “over there,” and we will meet again.
Dr. Stephen A. Saxon, 83, of Gainesville, Florida passed away January 8, 2026. He was born to the late Dr. John D. and Sarsa C. Saxon in Springfield, Tennessee. Stephen was the youngest of twelve children.
Stephen was married to Brenda Miller Saxon for 63 years. He is survived by Brenda and one son, Benjamin D. Saxon (Pamela) of Orlando, Florida.
After receiving his Phd in mathematics from Florida State University he and Brenda moved to Gainesville to begin his 35 year career with UF as a math professor. He had a long-lived international presence and was elected to the Royal Spanish Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Saxon was an internationally recognized bass-baritone soloing in four continents and in national telecasts. His performances included twenty-five solo appearances at the Kennedy Center, Washington D.C.
Stephen’s family would like to thank Haven Hospice for making his last hours of life beautiful and comfortable. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Haven Hospice, Gainesville, Florida.

A great mathematician and a very kind person. Many colleagues have wonderful memories of him at international meetings and other mathematical events. Rest in peace and my condolences to family and friends.
