It is with great sadness that we share the loss of Edwin Glen McMillan, who passed away peacefully at E.T York Haven Hospice on March 23rd, 2026.
Glen was born in Gainesville and graduated from Gainesville High School in 1953. After a brief stent at UF, Glen joined the Navy but was called home soon after for the death of his father. He stayed home to help run the family business, Mac’s Drive-In on Hawthorne Road. This was followed by several years also working in the field of insurance.
In 1960, Glen opened the Sandwich Inn, the oldest continuously operating restaurant in Gainesville, and one of two local legendary businesses that he would own and operate during his career as a restaurateur.
After 19 years Glen sold Sandwich Inn and retired from the restaurant business until boredom got to him. In 1987, Glen opened Mac’s Drive Thru, which he later gifted to his two sons, Kenneth and Jon. His retirement years were spent enjoying his family and friends, Gator football (no talking during Gator games!), fishing, golfing, creative cooking and being a full-time gardener and landscaper.
Glen is proceeded in death by his parents, Claude and Mae McMillan, his brother Beverly McMillan, and his son Kenneth McMillan.
Glen is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Gail McMillan, his son Jon (Lori) McMillan, his grandson Todd McMillan, his granddaughter Emma Gail McMillan, and several close nephews and nieces.
The family would love to hear any special memories you may have of Glen.
At Glen’s request, there will be no service, but memorial donations may be made in Glen’s name to E.T York Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Boulevard Gainesville, FL 32606.

Mr. Glen was always such a kind neighbor. He’s been my neighbor since I was 13 years old and I’ll miss him. His absence will be felt in our community for sure.
Rest in peace 💕
Rest in peace💕
So sorry, Gail. Glenn was always so much fun to be around.
We were best of friends from the first day we traded some old Navy sea stories. He called me Chief, and I called him Boatswain Mate.
We always traded friendly jabs at each other about everything from our Navy experiences, business endeavors, fishing, his cooking abilities and my complete lack of cooking ability.
Mac was a good, honest man and a great friend. And a great family man. Always bragging about his son’s, wife, and grandchildren.
He will be missed, but with fondness, by all who knew him.
R. I. P., Old Boatswain Mate. Maybe Noah has an opening on his ark.
Best neighbor in the World! We will miss you Glenn. Love the Kelly Family ❤️
