Elaine June Gallowitz

Elaine June Gallowitz, (nee Kolnick), 81, died peacefully in her sleep after her fight with cancer on November 4, 2017, at her home in Gainesville, Florida.  She is survived by Bill, her husband of 59 years, and her daughters Christine Errico and Cheryl Gallowitz of Gainesville, Florida.  Elaine is also survived by her sisters, Nancy Browne of Kentucky and Marilyn Chema of New York, and her brother, James Kolnick of Ocala, Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Elaine was born in Yonkers, New York where she met her husband, William, and initially worked as legal secretary and later on, as an administrative assistant for a Montessori School.  In 1999, Elaine and Bill moved to Margate, Florida prior to moving to Gainesville, Florida in 2016.  Her hobbies included socializing, bingo, and shopping.  She will be remembered best in the words of her sister, Nancy, “Elaine was the family historian, and a great conversationalist, she knew a lot about a lot of things”.   

At the request of the deceased, Elaine will be cremated, and her remains will be placed in Christine’s and Cheryl’s back yard.    Special thanks goes to Haven Hospice of Gainesville, Florida for the outstanding care and support they provided to Elaine and her family in their time of need.  IDonations can be sent to Haven Hospice of Gainesville, Florida (http://beyourhaven.org/how-you-can-help/donate-now/) or to the Gallowitz Family.   1. My condolences to all of you. I remember that I could never use the phone from 9 pm on because that was my mom and Elaine’s time to talk – every night for hours on end. Your home was like a 2nd home to me. She will be missed and remembered with love.
