GERALD THOMAS O’NEIL

OCALA –

Gerald Thomas O’Neil, 86, embarked on his eternal cruise on Tuesday January 27, 2021. Born June 10, 1934 in New Britain Connecticut to his father Thomas Gerald O’Neil and mother Leona Barrett O’Neil, he was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Rodger and William. Jerry served in the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1961. Jerry graduated from the University of Miami, Florida Atlantic University, and Nova Southeastern University where he earned his Doctorate in Public Administration. Jerry worked at Miami-Dade County, Denver Health, and finished his professional career with SantaFe Healthcare and as Group Vice President for AvMed Health Plan. After retirement Jerry served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Graduate School Of Health Care Administration. Over his lifetime Jerry served on a number of local, state and national boards, but was especially proud of his efforts with the City of Newberry, Alachua County, Oak Hammock at the University of Florida, and Queen of Peace Catholic Community.

Jerry leaves behind his loving family: wife Patricia, children Margaret Furlong (Devin), Gerald T. O’Neil Jr. (Aimee Anderson), Phyllis Murphy (Jeff), and stepchildren Arienne Cox (Wayne Rice) and Erich Cox Jr., sisters Pat Kenniston and Linda Mascarucci (Lino), 11 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Jerry encouraged and rejoiced in the accomplishments of his family and his many friends. Over the years, Jerry was always generous and thoughtful to all and made many close friends who he considered part of his family. His family and his friends will miss him.
