Gertrude Janet Cavanagh, 80 of Atlantic Beach, Florida passed away comfortably on Saturday, April 25, 2020.
Beloved wife of the late Thomas Cavanagh. Born in Brooklyn, New York to the late Thomas McElhinney and Clara Ryan.
Trudy was a retired New York City school teacher living in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Her passion was teaching struggling math students because it did not come easily to her either. Soon after arriving in Florida in 2004 to begin her retirement, she became a substitute teacher in the St John’s County School District. Trudy volunteered at the Baptist Medical Center Beaches and enjoyed spending time at the American Legion and the VFW. She loved bingo, reading, crossword puzzles, and sudoku.
Trudy loved holiday meals with family, extended family vacations, comparing hand size with nieces and nephews to judge growth spurts, and her infamous staircase pictures throughout the years.
Trudy is predeceased by four siblings, Thomas and his wife Vern, Virginia Treche and her husband Bob, Dolores Davis, and Alice Randazzo and her husband Frank. Trudy is survived by 14 nieces and nephews.
Trudy will be cremated then, at some time in the future, buried at the Cemetery of the Resurrection in Staten Island, New York.
