James "Jim" Dionne

James “Jim” Dionne, 74, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida, with his eldest daughter by his side, listening to Billy Joel.

Jim was the beloved father of Christopher Dionne, Andrea Sinclair (Alec), and Laura Dionne, and a proud grandfather to Elise, Juliet, and Trent.  His grandkids were the joy of his life and he had dreams of them one day attending university in Florida so they could be closer by.

He was predeceased by his parents, William and Joyce Dionne, and his brother, Bill Dionne. He is survived by his siblings Mike (Linda), Barb (Richard) and Rob (Jeannie).

The peak of Jim’s career was his years with Commodore, where he served as Canadian President before eventually becoming President of U.S. Operations. His work took him around the world, and over the years he travelled to countless countries. Although the demands of his career meant spending a great deal of time away from home, Jim embraced the opportunity to see the world and experience different cultures.

Those who knew Jim will remember his quick wit and unmistakable sense of humour. He loved music, books and movies, including “classics” like Caddyshack and Commando. He also had a legendary appreciation for a good bargain. Jim could be incredibly frugal—once stocking up on a sale so enthusiastically that he came home with 16 boxes of the same cereal—yet that same man could also be remarkably generous when it mattered.

While Jim had limited vices, he always loved to gamble.  Some of the closest friendships he made in Florida were at the Best Bet Poker Room.  When visiting his dad, Chris often tagged along and got to know several of these friends as well.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jim’s friend Norm, who was there for Jim as often as possible during his final weeks when his family could not be by his side. His friendship and support meant a great deal to Jim and to his family.

Above all, Jim will be remembered by his family for his humour and his stories.
