On the early morning of August 31, 2019, Jerry Joseph Leffert Jr. passed away due to a tragic car accident that also took the lives of his parents James “Jim” E. Sweet and Linda M. Sweet.
Jerry was born on December 18, 1964 in Wantagh, NY and in 1967 his family moved to Florida. At the age of 13, Jerry met the love his life, Theresa Leffert. They married on September 2, 1983. He joined the US Navy from 1982-1988. In 1988 he left the Navy and began working at Lancaster in corrections. From 1994-1995 he worked in construction until he found his passion for computers and technology. In 1999 he earned his Bachelor’s degree in IT while working at Barr Systems from 1997-2000. In 2001 he began working for the University of Florida and continued to work there for the past 18 years.
When not working, Jerry loved to spend his free time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed cruising, movies, and watching sports (especially Florida Gator football and Atlanta United soccer). Jerry was always willing and available to help coworkers, friends, and family with any computer needs or anything else he could assist with. Jerry was extremely intelligent, kind, generous, loving, and thoughtful. He always strived to be the best husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He never failed to be anything less than the best. Jerry had a huge heart and truly believed a person should never give with expectations and always be kind. He made his family and friends proud to know him and be a part of his life.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father Jerry Leffert Sr.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Theresa Leffert, his daughter and son-in-law, Kristina and Daniel Sevilla, his son and daughter-in-law, James and Stacie Leffert, his grandchildren Lucas and Payton Burns, Jaxon and Quinn Leffert, his sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Tyson Emery, his sister, MaryAnne Van Tyne, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jerry was one of the kindest people I have ever known. He will be missed. I consider myself very lucky to have had him for my friend for the last 28 years. We should all strive to be more like the person that he was! Rip

Jerry was always so kind to me at UPD. I would do some of the dumbest things to my computer…but he NEVER mind fixing it. It was a joy to me to call him and say Houston We Have Problems…I would sit back and watch him control my screen from his off. He was such a humble person…With what he has to deal with I NEVER saw him get angry…he would always chuckle as to say….that’s so dumb what they are doing. I also remember when he would have a Hot Pocket every day for lunch…He was just such a kind person. He also gave me personal advice on purchasing technology. I am still in disbelief. Kristina my heart hurts for your whole family. RIP Jerry Leffert Houston is in Control🙏🙏🙏
Mr. Leffert was a great man who went to heaven too soon. I pray for the Lefferts. James spoke highly about his family to the LWC employees. He is a reflection of his father and I know his father is and will always be proud of James.
My brother in law Jerry was a great man that loved his family and friends immensely! We miss him so much! Rest In Peace.
My sincere Condolences to all the Leffert and Sweet family. I'm so sorry I haven't contacted you before now but didn't know how to get a msg. to you I worked with Jerry at UF for the past several years. He was a really super great guy and is missed so much by myself and his colleagues. Jerry walked with a few of us every day. We all talked every morning about what we did the night before, we talked of our families, our hopes and dreams and desires. Even though Jerry's not physically here any longer, he is with us in spirit every day.
I've been praying and will continue to pray for all the family each and every day for all their comfort and healing. God Bless. Rest in peace Jerry.
