Joan Elizabeth Nerger

November 14, 1939 ~ September 5, 2026

Born in: Greensboro, Georgia
Resided in: Ocala, Florida

Joan Elizabeth Nerger, 86, passed away on September 5, 2026, in Ocala, Florida.

Joan was the devoted wife of Paul for 68 years. Married in Brunswick, Georgia, they were true partners who did nearly everything together. Paul was her everything and her partner in every sense of the word. Their life took them to many places as they followed Paul’s work before settling in Gainesville, Florida, where they ran a donut shop together. Their business was another reflection of the close partnership they shared throughout their marriage. They enjoyed traveling, skiing, golfing, and attending Gator games. Wherever life took them, they faced it side by side.

Family was the center of Joan’s life. She would do anything for her family and especially cherished her children, Debbie (Nazio), Paul, and Sandi (Mark), and her grandchildren, Annalise (Jeff) and Erik (Reyna).

Joan was curious and creative, always eager to learn and try something new. She loved painting and stained glass, enjoyed her beautiful gardens—earning Yard of the Month multiple times—and found joy in selling Avon, bowling, and volunteering at her children’s schools.

Joan is survived by her beloved husband, Paul; her children, Debbie (Nazio), Paul, and Sandi (Mark); grandchildren, Annalise (Jeff) and Erik (Reyna); brothers Larry (late wife Rose) and Roy (Diane); sisters-in-law Mickey and Natalie; and many beloved nieces and nephews on both her side of the family and Paul’s.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Walker and Mary Alma Huff, and her brothers Joe, John, and George.

Joan will be remembered for her devotion to Paul, her love of family, her creativity, curiosity, and the beautiful life she shared with those she loved. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joan’s memory to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 5200 SW College Rd, Ocala, Florida 34474.
