John Arthur Wollheim

March 29, 2021

John Arthur Wollheim, beloved husband, father and Pap Pap

John (Jack), 89, of Williston FL., passed away peacefully with his family by his side in his home on March 29, 2021.

Born and raised in Oceanside, NY, he was the middle child of Vera (Elvira) Erickson and John Wollheim. He attended Long Island Agricultural College and served in the US Army and the Army Reserves.

His love of agriculture led him to the United Fruit Company where he worked for the Chiquita Banana Brand in his adopted and much loved “hometown” of Pittsburgh where he became a devout Steelers fan. He met his wife, Josephine Nara, at a Dale Carnegie course and they raised their children in Pittsburgh before moving to New Jersey where he managed a farm and produce market. His friendly demeanor and caring approach towards mentees and employees made him a much beloved boss.

Jack had many interests and passions that kept him reading and learning throughout his life. He loved history, especially the American Revolution and the Civil War, cultivating roses and listening to music. He played the guitar and trumpet and was partial to jazz. His retirement years in Florida were spent enjoying the warmth of the Sunshine State, giving away bouquets of his beautiful roses and visiting with his grandchildren. He admired and encouraged a can-do work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit and took great pride in his family's accomplishments. His inspiring words will be missed by his surviving family; wife Jo, daughters Kathryn J. Wollheim (Hector, Div.), Julia L. Tensfeldt and husband James, Kirsten Wollheim and husband Michael van den Abeel and his grandchildren; Nicole, Alexander, Cali, Javier, Timothy, Liam and Tess.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in his name to Give Kids The World Village, an organization that he supported and volunteered for in his retirement. https://give.gktw.org/give/265729/#!/donation/checkout

  1. My family affectionately called John “Uncle Jack”. He was such a wonderful man, and I loved talking to him. He was such a kind and caring man, and he is very much missed by all of us❤️

  2. I remember Jack and Jo as friends of my parents in Florida in the early 90's. Both so nice. Sorry to hear of Jack's passing.

  3. I have thought about Jack often over the years since we were friends and neighbors at Cypress Cove. He was such a valued part of our life there. We were all so young back then. Our little kids are grown now with children of our own. And yet, the memories we have if those times together stay with. I'm sorry we lost touch after we moved away. I only now learned of Jack's passing and wish we had reconnected before it was too late. Although no longer here, Jack will be forever remembered with fondness by all of us in the Boas family.

  4. A great teacher and listener. Always quick to put his lessons into real world scenarios, my grandfather, or rather, pap-pap was a core of my family and drove all us to do our part when it came to togetherness. I have learned much in terms of vocabulary and presentation from him as well as general knowledge, for example, you should always bring a handkerchief around with you, because you never know when a lady might need one.
For ever in my heart and my mind
    Love Liam
