John Burton Watson Jr.

January 7, 1954 ~ April 6, 2026

Born in: Orlando, Florida
Resided in: Gainesville, Florida

John Burton Watson Jr., 72, of Orlando, Florida, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026, in Gainesville, Florida.

John was born to Margaret Watson and the late John B. Watson. A man of many talents and interests, he briefly played in the minor league baseball system before an injury redirected his path. He went on to build a career in car sales, where he formed lasting friendships and a strong sense of community, and later worked in the trucking industry.
In 2017, John founded 4Given Ministries, combining his deep faith with a passion for prison outreach, with the love and support of First Orlando. Through this ministry, he baptized more than 3,500 men and women across Florida’s prison system. He firmly believed in the power of grace and that any life could be transformed through the love of Christ.
John found joy in golfing, relaxing at the beach, playing the guitar, and striking up conversations with just about anyone—whether they were ready to listen or not. He loved sharing his faith, was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren, and absolutely adored his mother.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret Watson; his aunt, Donna Coleman; his brother, Richard Watson (Karin); his children, Jordan Milner (Joey), Shelby Vallejo (Matt), Sarah Watson (Chu), and John B. Watson III (Melanie); and his eight grandchildren: Braden Vallejo, Reagan Vallejo, Bennett Milner, Joseph Brooks Milner, Britt Milner, Guardin Simmons, Hailey Watson Austin, and Cahleb Watson. He is also survived by his nephews, Shawn Watson (Stephanie) and Eric Watson (Theresa).
He was preceded in death by his wife, Julie Watson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to First Orlando or to a prison ministry of your choice.

Crevasse’s Simple Cremation is honored to serve the Watson family.

Guestbook

  1. Grateful for the many lives forever changed as John preached the Good News that sets prisoners free. “Well done, thou good and faithful servant . . .” (Matthew 25:21).

  2. Brother John…you now see face to face what we can still only imagine. Thank you for your passion for prisoners and the tireless work organizing prison crusades over the years. Your influence led us to launch Christian recovery meetings in prison every week which touched many lives for over 15 years. Thanks again for being faithful to your calling and an influence to me and many others that participated in prison ministry. I have missed you this past year at the prayer station in Cape Canaveral, but look forward to our grand reunion one glorious day with our Lord Jesus Christ. Prayers go out for your entire family. May the peace that surpasses our understanding keep your hearts and minds in the Lord Jesus Christ. Phil 4:7
