Josephine M. Fickle

Josephine M. (Vicino) Fickle, 86, of Lincoln, RI and Ocala, FL passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2020 in FL at the home of her daughter, Lynda, with whom she resided with for the last 19 years. Joan (as she liked to be called) was born May 20, 1933 to Rocco Vicino and Mary (Wolowicz, Vicino) Kania in Mansfield, MA. She was also the step-daughter of Walter Kania and Irene Vicino. She grew up and attended schools in Central Falls, RI -- graduating with national honors from Central Falls High School in 1951, and married Jack Fickle Sr. in 1957; they were stationed in San Diego, CA from 1958 thru 1970.
Joan worked various jobs when she was younger, before becoming a mother and homemaker. It was her goal to be the best parent she could be, there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do or go without for her family. There was nothing more important than family and hard work. Despite life struggles, she always wore an infectious smile.
Joan will always be remembered as a woman of exceptional strength, faith, courage, hope, love, and joy of family under the most adverse and wonderful conditions.
Joan enjoyed attending her children’s, grandchildren’s and great grand-children’s school and sporting events along with sewing, cooking, crafting, playing cards, bowling, and bingo. She was a huge Elvis fan. She also enjoyed helping all her family, friends and community, and contributed to numerous benefit fundraisers in the community. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post #3788, San Diego. In her later years, after retiring in 1998, Joan often contributed to many charities, including The Salvation Army, Goodwill, Smile Train, The Boys and Girls Club, American Cancer Society, The Humane Society, Catholic Relief Services, and the USO.
Survivors include her children; Lynda (and Lloyd) Ogilvie of Lincoln, RI and Ocala, FL, Laurie (and Arthur) Tremblay Jr. of Pawtucket, RI and Jack Vicino of Warwick, RI, as well as 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren plus her beloved cat Gizmo, 2 nephews and several cousins.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her step-parents, sister Delores Thomas and
step-sister Pauline Baxter, 2 nephews and 1 niece.
