Judith Laine Causier

Judith Laine Causier (Judi) passed away peacefully at her home in Gainesville, Florida on December 9, 2020. Judi was born in West Palm Beach on December 15, 1941.  She moved to Lakeland in 1956, and graduated from Lakeland High School in 1959.

After attending Florida Southern College, Judi attended St. Luke’s Nursing School at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, FL, where she graduated in 1963 with her nursing diploma. She was named Miss St. Luke’s that same year.

Judi began her nursing career in the emergency room at Lakeland General Hospital, and eventually was promoted to Head Nurse of the ER. After several years, she moved to Bethesda, MD, where she worked at the National Institutes of Health in cardiac care.

After returning to Florida in 1971, Judi worked at the Malcolm Randall V.A. Hospital in Gainesville in the surgical ICU until 1980. At that time, she transferred to the V.A. Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, where she worked again in cardiac care until her retirement and return to Gainesville in 1998.

Judi continued to serve in the medical field in Gainesville and worked in the emergency room at Alachua General Hospital, and part-time in the wound care clinic at North Florida Regional Medical Center.

An active member of the Lutheran church while in Minnesota, Judi attended and was involved in Trinity United Methodist Church in Gainesville.

In her spare time, Judi was an avid golfer, loved water skiing, downhill skiing and could play a mean game of pool. She delighted in spending time with family and friends.

She is pre-deceased by her parents, Arthur and Nina Causier, of Vero Beach, FL; brother, Dr. David Causier, of Seal Beach, CA, and many beloved aunts and uncles.

Judi is survived by her sisters, Shirley Causier Ledbetter and Susan Causier, both of Gainesville, niece, Elizabeth Sheets of Gainesville; nephews Brian Ledbetter (Jessica) of New Port Richey; Robert Mueller (Katy) of Land O’Lakes, and David Causier of Gainesville, two grand-nieces and three grand-nephews.

She was a generous contributor to many charities and non-profit, including the Wounded Warriors, ASPCA, Boys Town and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She had a great interest in and respect for the Native American tribes and cultures, their art and craftsmanship, and would often purchase backpacks and school supplies for Native American children

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Judi’s honor to either the Veterans of Foreign Wars or the American Association for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
