Rev. Larry Jerome Seymour, age 77, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, after a courageous struggle with metastatic cancer. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Larry earned a history degree at the University of Florida, then studied theology at Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond. Ordained by the Presbytery of Florida in 1974, he first served Havana, Florida, before becoming Chaplain for the Florida Department of Health at the North Florida Evaluation & Treatment Center—a maximum‑security psychiatric facility for criminal‑justice clients—where he ministered for 35 years, retiring in 2010 as Senior Forensic Chaplain. During that time, he also served churches in Gainesville and Reddick, volunteered at the Presbyterian Student Center, and sat on UF Health’s Institutional Review
He was a trusted friend and a preacher whose sermons touched local congregations. Larry was predeceased by his first wife, Sandra Fields Seymour. He is survived by his wife Barbara Seymour, his mother Margaret Seymour of Gainesville, his sister Melody, his daughter Amy, his son‑in‑law Andy, his step‑daughters Susan, Cathryn, and Daniel, his step‑son Jason, his godson Jason Huff, and many grandchildren.

OUR LOVE TO Barbara and family. I am glad you found this man to,share years with, and knowing you will have lonely days and nights. You shared love and memories. We are here for you.
He performed my wedding ceremony in 1995, and the steadiness and grace he brought to that day is something I’ve never forgotten.
He also introduced me to Jimmy Buffett’s music, which will always make me think of him with a smile.

As I write my remembrance, my eyes fill with tears while a smile fills my heart. He was unflinchingly kind, irrepressibly hilarious, with a mind that was always keen and thoughtful. Catfish (and he will always be Catfish to me) was among the greatest people I have ever known! The world has lost one if its shining stars!
It is so hard to imagine a world without Larry in it but he is on his great adventure brings comfort. Miss you, dear friend.
