Lawrence W.” Pete” St. Pierre Sr., 81, passed Monday January 23rd, 2017 at the Malcom Randall VA Hospital in Gainesville, Florida
He was born in Newport, VT. on December 30 1935, son to Dwight and Nettie (Morrison) St. Pierre. He grew up in Penacook and attended local schools there. He lived in many places around the world but spent the better part of the end of his long career of 42 years at K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He spent time in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired after he helped close the base and was Fire Chief in the end but played many rolls before that, some included Veteran Firefighter, Fire inspector, Arson Instructor as well as an arson inspector. He also had had the pleasure of traveling around the Upper Peninsula of Michigan training volunteer Fire Departments. (A Job that he truly enjoyed) He had many memberships which included being a lifetime member of the Elks, American Legion and Amvets, and volunteered whenever and where ever he could because he truly enjoyed helping people. He was often heard saying “I’ve had a good life” and it is my hope that because of him others can say the same.
Lawrence was married to Joyce Ann Holmes of Kansas on April 21st, 1956 after only a 4-month whirlwind romance and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2016. He dedicated his life not only to the Air Force but to his Family as well. He is preceded in death by his eldest son Lawrence W. “Larry” St. Pierre Jr. whom died in June 2016 and seven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife Joyce: two sons Dwight W. St. Pierre of Texas and Brian K. St. Pierre of Michigan: one daughter Cheryl D. Blue of Florida. One sister remains, Jean Beachine of Penacook N.H. and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date and he will be laid to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell FL.
WORDS that describe him from his family: Awesome, Brave, Fighter, Loyal, Loving, Professional, Generous, and the Smartest.
He will be greatly missed.
