Margaret Wilson Owsley

Margaret Wilson Owsley, devout Christian, loving mother to four children, grandmother to eleven, great-grandmother to ten and great-great-grandmother to three, passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on Wednesday, December 16th 2020.
Born in Poca, West Virginia to Jennie (Durst) and Virgil Wilson she was the second youngest of six children. She proudly served her country by enlisting in the Navy Waves during WWII joining three brothers in service to our country. Post war, Margaret received her Bachelor of Science from Anderson College & Theological Seminary with a major in education. Her teaching career was interspersed with travels including Australia and the Holy Land. She was a longtime resident of Jacksonville Beach, FL later moving to St Augustine, FL.
A talented poet and singer, Margaret wrote and composed many songs about her life and experiences. Some of her published works include Lost For A While, Prodigal Golfer, and I Stroll Into The Morning. Margaret was a widow of two loving husbands, Arnold Owsley of Montgomery, WV and Frederick O’Grady of Jacksonville, FL. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Jean and grandson Michael. She is survived by her two daughters, Jo Ann Griesheimer and Jan Rowe, son Mark Owsley and twenty-three grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends.
Margaret leaves behind a legacy of faith in Jesus Christ, honorable service to her country and a deep love for her family.

I met Margaret in 1974. Her daughter Jeannie was the first of the children that I met, then I met Margaret.
They were a very musical family. Margaret started writing songs shortly after we met. She definitely had a talent for songwriting and poetry.
When she moved to Florida, I came down and visited. She loved the ocean. She was an amazing woman and friend. It was great getting to know her and her family. That is why I was a little sad when she moved to Florida, so far away from West Virginia. I’m still good friends with her daughter Joann. I was very sad to see Jeannie pass away so young. Margaret was one of the best most loving Christians we have ever met. My wife and I used to live in an apartment above her before she moved to Jax beach. We can't say enough about what a loving, wonderful, gracious Christian she was. We will see you soon, Margaret. I know the angels celebrated when you arrived in your eternal home.
