  3. During the summer of 1967 or 1968 Marlene and I had a job cooking for the Owen family on Lake Owen, near Ashland, Wisconsin. Joan Gullerud was there, too; her job was to take care of the kids. The three of us lived in a cabin near the main house (and there was only an outhouse at our disposal), and we shared many experiences together. I had thought that I was experienced in the cooking area, but I think Marlene had me beat. We all became good friends. I don’t remember a single bad moment in our friendship. Marlene was simply a pleasure to have as a friend. I am sorry that she is gone, but happy her pain is over and that she is with Jesus.
