Matthew Douglas Anthony Sr., 66, of St. Augustine, FL, passed away on April 16, 2026 surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on August 21, 1959, in Jamestown, NY, to Thomas and Thelma (Rabold) Anthony, Matt was raised in Plantation, FL, alongside his four brothers. In 1976, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served for 10 years as a helicopter mechanic. Following his military service, Matt enjoyed a multifaceted career in the business and insurance industries, spending over 25 years providing security and peace of mind to his clients.

A true host at heart, Matt was never happier than when surrounded by friends and family. Whether he was experimenting with new recipes, fishing, or boating, he lived for the moments that brought people together. Having a keen sense of wonder, Matt and his wife, Cathy, were able to travel together to 21 countries, in addition to their multiple trips to the Caribbean, Alaska and Hawaii.

Matt was also deeply committed to community service, continuing his father’s legacy through extensive philanthropy in Broward and Miami-Dade counties.  He served on the boards of the Health Care Solutions Alliance, the Broward County Medical Association, HandsOn Broward, Women in Distress, and the Broward County Homeless Providers’ & Stakeholders’ Council.

Matt is survived by his beloved wife, Cathy Russell; his children, Shannon (husband George) Martin and Matthew (wife Karolina) Anthony, and their mother, Rosalie Quinn; his grandchildren, Reagan, George, Nile, Liam, and Owen; his brothers, Thomas (wife Tammie) and Mark Anthony; and many nieces and nephews. From Cathy’s family, Matt also leaves behind 5 sister-in-laws, 2 brother-in-laws, and their families.   He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Stephen and Christopher Anthony.
