Michael John “Mike” Rose, aged 52, passed away on May 24, 2026, in Gainesville, Florida. Born on June 1, 1973, in Hartford, Connecticut, Mike lived a life filled with passion and dedication to the people he loved most. He was a loving husband and great support to his wife Liz.
Mike earned his bachelor’s degree in music, specializing in the tuba, and carried his love for learning into every aspect of his life. He was known for his fighting spirit, and quiet determination. He overcame many challenges in his life and fought until the end of a long illness. His passions were as diverse as they were vibrant—he found joy in music, teaching, skiing, hiking and sports (especially hockey) and was a budding beekeeper. During his illness he developed a newfound talent for drawing. Whether exploring the great outdoors or sharing his knowledge with others, Mike approached everything with enthusiasm and heart.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth and in-laws Jean and Ted, brothers-in-law David (Becky) and Christopher, and brothers Dennis (Laurie), Gary (Becky), Brian (Lynn), and Thomas. Mike was predeceased by his parents, John and Catherine.
Mike’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May his legacy of kindness and passion continue to inspire all who remember him.

Mike was my first student at UCONN and I have very fond memories of him. Even back then he had that fighting spirit and I’m so sorry to hear of his passing. Take care Liza and stay strong.
I am incredibly sorry for your loss.
