Michelle (Shelley) Dawn Barker

Shelley believed that Black Lives Matter, Love is Love, and Science is Real. She was a passionate progressive with powerful opinions and the intelligence to support them. Shelley leaves a legacy of advocacy to the LGBTQI+ community in Jacksonville as a former board member for River City Pride, and involvement with many other organizations. Mostly, we will remember the strength and zeal of Shelley's love for those less fortunate than her.
Shelley is survived by her much bereft husband and love of her life, Mike Barker, beloved daughter Aeryn La Mar [Torin], her mother Mary “Nanny”, her best friend and chosen family Kelly [Tracy], her step children Cami and Nathan, her brother-in-law Jim Barker [Richard & Michael], her nephew Caleb Mullen [Marissa] and her many close friends, colleagues, and family. Shelley was preceded in death by her father, Duane Mullen (2013) and her granddaughter Teegan Elaine La Mar (2013).

Shelley was a saint. I didn’t know her and a friend of mine was trying to help me find somewhere to stay when I was younger and troubled. I was 16 and a stranger. She was going to take me in with no questions and take care of me. I ended up not needing to stay with her because I figured it out. However, that memory has stuck with me my whole life. I’m 31 and I’ll never forget that love and kindness when I met her all those years ago.Â
It saddens me to find out recently my friend/ Co-Worker Shelley has passed away. She will be truly missed. I did desktop support for her team and she could ask me to do anything for her and I would drop everything I'm doing to help her. She a very genuine individual that you don't meet everyday
