Nora T Vega Isern

Nora Vega-Isern, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, March 29th, 2021, in Jacksonville, Florida.

Nora was born on March 9th, 1935 to Jose Vega Santiago and Juana Amparo Rivera Giménez in Caguas, Puerto Rico. After graduating from El Colegio de la Inmaculada in Santurce, Puerto Rico, she attended the University of Puerto Rico and graduated with a degree in Secretarial Sciences.

She began her career as a secretary at Banco de Fomento in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She held multiple positions during her career including Assistant to the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Puerto Rico prior to relocating to Jacksonville, Florida in 1985.

Nora was a committed and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved spending time with her family, sharing stories, and cooking their favorite dishes! She was a devout Catholic and member of the Saint Joseph’s parish. She became a CHRP Sister in 1999 and volunteered with the Divine Mercy House and Meals on Wheels until 2010, when she stopped due to illness.

She is survived by her son Jose Isern (Kathy); daughter Clara McMahon (Bob); granddaughter Maureen Isern; grandsons David Isern (Nicole), Andres Abreu (Sheryl), and Robert McMahon, Jr.; great-grandchildren Kanye, Evelyn Marie, Isaac, Kaydon, Vincent, Eva, and Elias; as well as many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jose Isern-Piñero, and their daughter Carmen Isern.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Nora’s name be made to the Mayo Clinic in Florida Neuroscience Research or the Alzheimer’s Association.

A special thank you to the staff at the Westminster Woods in Julington Creek Health Center and Assisted Living Facility for the compassionate care provided to Nora during her residency. Also, a very heartfelt thank you to the staff at Baptist Medical Center South in Florida for their loving care to our mother during the last few days of her life.
