Captain Paul David Card departed this world on August 17, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. Paul was born October 17, 1956, to Doris Danese Card and Charles C. Card. He lived most of his childhood in Brevard County, Florida and later moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he built a life and family.
Paul is survived by his mother, Doris Danese Card; wife, Linda Ann Card; brother, David C. Card (Myra); children, Kayla Elizabeth Neeley, Jesica Lynn Naiman, Angela Michelle Dupont (Richard); Jeffery Paul Card (Shania); Elyse Card Hegi (Robert); Joel Parker Card (Olivia); and 9 grandchildren, Taylor, Braden, Sydney, Ashlyn, Julia, Sylvia, Jaxon and Joseph Paul. He was preceded in death by his father Charles C. Card and grandson, Anthony Allan Massey.
For much of his career, Paul drove a tractor trailer until retiring in 2009. While he enjoyed days on the open road, his true passion was photography. His earlier work consisted of portraits and events. After retirement, his focus turned to nature and wildlife. He went to Sea School and acquired his Captain’s License which allowed him to host boat tours taking people out on the lakes of Florida to photograph eagles, ospreys, monkeys, shore birds and much more (www.cardphototours.com). His photography was phenomenal and his legacy lives on in the lives that he helped shape, the stories he told in that deep, soothing voice; and the music and adventures he shared with those he loved. His memory will always be etched upon our hearts.
Paul also loved his basset hounds and spent many years as a fosterer and volunteer for Suncoast Basset Rescue, ensuring loving homes for the dogs he loved so much.
The family requests in lieu of flowers to please send a donation to Suncoast Basset Rescue (https://www.Suncoastbassetrescue.org/donations); a gift to the Photography and Media Arts program at St. Edward's University in memory of Paul Card. You can give online here--https://www.givecampus.com/campaigns/8081/donations/new?designation=photographymediaarts& or please contact Anne Westdyke at anneew@stedwards.edu or 512.492.3147 if you would like additional information; the American cancer society for research (www.cancer.org) or to a charity of your choice on Paul's behalf.
Crevasse's Simple Cremation is honored to serve the Card family.

Dear Linda and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. It came so quickly. Paul brought so much pleasure through his photography. He even took the wedding pictures for my niece, KaBethThomas, years ago. People will try to tell you that he's in a better place, but honestly, that is not a lot of comfort when all you really want is him by your side for the rest of your lives. Treat yourself kindly Dear as you start down a new road without him. I'm pretty sure you will feel his presence as you walk down it.
Sincerely,
Joan Zoranski
RIP Paul. Heaven received a beautiful angel. We will miss you and your beautiful photos. Luv always, Janee
I’m so glad we were able to have lunch together last year. To catch up on our lives (and health). Cancer is so arbitrary. And you can beat it and beat it and beat it, then it takes you. I thank God you are not in pain now and I imagine you in heaven praising him. Many will miss you and we hurt for our loss, but we can’t help but be happy for your gain. I’ll always remember you with love, Paul.
You are so missed by so many, Paul. I will forever cherish your kindness when you & Linda came to rescue Snickers from our house. I had no idea how to handle his issues. You didn't shy away from those, kept him with you for 10 years or more and shared his journey in your life with me the whole time. I have continued to journey down my dog rescue path with the learnings from you & Linda. I miss the beautiful pictures of wildlife you gathered after dog rescue was no longer a focus for you. I am still amazed at the pictures you got! I know you are free from pain and with your beloved pets now so we take comfort in that.
Rest in Peace Paul. I will miss your beautiful pictures. I know you are pain free and at peace. You will be missed by so many. But especially you wife Linda and your family. I love you and Linda so much. Until we meet again.
Dear Linda & all you kiddos,
I could say I know how much you miss your helpmeet & dad, but honestly, I can only imagine. He was a fun cousin & I know he loved his family. He always did what he could to make sure ya'll all had what you needed & whenever possible what you just wanted. I do believe he and Tony (Danese) are in heaven trading war stories (by that I mean the stories of raising all you kids) and being so very proud of all of you. He loved music, and photography, but mostly he loved ya'll.
RIP Paul with no more pain, just joy.
Paul was my friend and an amazing mentor! he would help me anytime I had a question or needed help with my photography we sure had some fun adventures !!! I miss him still today and I will miss seeing your wonderful images on a regular basis but I will visit your page from time to time. Paul adores Linda so much !
I will continue to keep your family in my prayers. And Hey there Mr. Card …Hugs to heaven my sweet friend. Donna.
I met Paul when I was 19 years old and was just hired at MacMillan Bloedel back in 1991. We worked together with an amazing group of guys for the next 14-15 years. He was one of the 4 or 5 drivers that taught/trained me to drive a tractor trailer. He was always a great guy that would do anything to help out a friend. If you knew him, you knew his love for his family. Rest in Peace my friend. You will be missed by so many.
We have a Devotion that we try to live by.
"Be someone People will miss when you are gone."
Paul IS that someone.
Our deepest condolences to the Card family. Paul was an amazing person and photographer who kindly shared his photographic talent and pictures with friends. He captured some of God’s best creation and handiwork. Thank you Paul for sharing and being such a humble individual. You are missed.
New Life
Please don't cry for me I've gone to the land where the blind can see where the lame can walk and the silent talk the deaf can hear and all illness cleared. I am now with God but you can still see me I'm the gentle snow on the smile on a child's face I'm the eagle flying with beauty and Grace on the leaves that turn the Sun that burns the rain that falls I have become it all I live on and all you see please don't cry just smile for me. I love you my friend, P.C. Marcie Simonetta (c) 9/24
I met Paul in the 4th grade at Fairglen Elementary School in Sharpes Florida. His photos were amazing. He was quite a guy. We'll all miss his spirit.
It is amazing to say I have known you since we were kids. We grew up and went our separate ways but somehow kept in touch through the years. You have been such a loving man with your family and friends. You shared the world through your photography. Thank you for being such a wonderful guy. We will miss you along with your family. Sending love to Linda and the family. ❤️🙏🏻 Rest in peace Paul.
"I thought we'd have more time". This is ringing in my brain as my friend Linda is telling me that Paul has passed from a rare aggressive cancer. I didn't know he was gone. We should have called sooner. I should have told him, the last time we spoke, how much he meant to me and that I missed his sense of humor and genuine good heart. We have a million things going on, but only a few that really matter. RIP Paul.
Surely miss your crazy jokes you sent to my Facebook and I would always ask "how does Linda deal with you?" and I would laugh. Who will we turn to for the answers to all the camera questions? You may be gone making a place in heaven for all of us to join you once again, but know that Skylar and I will be here keeping an eye on Linda and making sure she is doing as best as she could. Deepest condolences to the Card Family.
