Robert Marion Gruber

July 22, 1944 ~ April 14, 2026

Born in: Bloomington, IL
Resided in: Jacksonville, FL

Robert Marion Gruber, 81, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026.

He is survived by his loving children, Cherie Gruber (Jerry), Michael Gruber (Jessica), and his stepdaughter, Michelle (Mike) Vannucci. He is also survived by his sisters, Tonja (Frank) Blankenship and Cheryl (Billy) Crick; his former spouse, Deborah (Eddy) Wallace; and his beloved grand-dog, Ziggy, affectionately known as “The Terror.”

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Julia “Judy” (Guy) Carr and Robert (Fern) Gruber; his brothers, Dave Gruber, Gene Gruber, and Ronald “Dupe” Gruber; and his cherished dog, Milo.
Robert appreciated the simple pleasures in life. He loved old cars, oldies and classic rock music, and had a lifelong passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles—often traveling to Daytona Bike Week for the chance to take one out for a ride. He loved watching Jacksonville Jaguars football games, was a devoted fan of The Young and the Restless (never missing an episode for over 30 years), and enjoyed many family poker nights. Above all, he treasured spending time with his children.

Robert proudly served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1965, including two years stationed in Hawaii, where he especially enjoyed learning to surf.

He earned a Management Degree from the University of West Florida and went on to have a long and successful professional career. After 25 years with IBM, he finished his career with America Online (AOL) during the company’s early start-up days before retiring.

A private family gathering will be held to honor Robert’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a local animal shelter of your choice in his memory.
